Mathematical! “Adventure Time: Side Quests” First Trailer Teases a Bright, Storybook Return to Ooo
Cartoon Network has officially unleashed the first trailer for “Adventure Time: Side Quests,” a brand-new companion series that revisits our favorite duo during their younger, simpler adventuring days. Stripping away the massive, complex lore of recent spin-offs, this new iteration promises a joyful return to standalone, monster-slaying fun.
The series is breaking new ground with its distribution pipeline. In the United States, Adventure Time: Side Quests is set to premiere on June 29, 2026, streaming exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu. International fans can catch the global rollout later in the fall when it hits Cartoon Network linear channels and Max on October 5.
Going Back to the Roots (Before the Heavy Lore)
While recent expansions like Fionna and Cake leaned heavily into multiversal stakes and mature character arcs, Side Quests intentionally channels the chaotic, lighthearted energy of Adventure Time’s early seasons.
The premise is straightforward: Finn the Human and his magical shape-shifting dog best friend, Jake, are just kids living in a treehouse, looking for playful challenges, partying with cloud people, and “punching evil in the butt.” According to the show’s creative team, the focus is entirely on self-contained, silly quests that are easy for new audiences to dive into while giving veteran fans a nostalgic comfort watch.
“Making Side Quests felt like making the original Adventure Time, which felt like hanging out with art school buddies making professional cartoons,” Cash shared during the production announcement.
A Striking New Storybook Visual Aesthetic
While the characters are completely recognizable, the trailer instantly reveals a massive, deliberate transformation in the franchise’s art direction under art director Nick Cross.
The OG Voice Cast Stands Ready
A change in visual style doesn’t mean a change in the vocal performances that defined a generation. The series introduces Sasha Knight as the voice of a younger Finn the Human, but the supporting cast is a massive reunion of original Adventure Time legends.
John DiMaggio is back to deliver his iconic, laid-back line reads as Jake the Dog. He is flanked by a full roster of returning heavyweights, including Tom Kenny as the Ice King, Hynden Walch as Princess Bubblegum, Olivia Olson as Marceline the Vampire Queen, and Niki Yang pulling double duty as director and the voice of the lovable console BMO. Accompanied by a fresh, playful score from composer Matthew Janszen, the audio identity remains completely intact.
Whether you want to watch Finn and Jake protect the Gummy Babies or see Ice King cause localized chaos, Side Quests is positioning itself to be the ultimate summer comfort watch.
This first-look trailer showcases the companion series’ vibrant new animation style, gives a sneak peek at the younger versions of Finn and Jake, and previews the exact brand of self-contained, nostalgic humor coming to Disney+ and Hulu this June.
