English Dub Review: I Want to End This Love Game “My Childhood Friend and the Student Council President”
Overview:
The Student Council President catches Yukiya and Miku up to their usual antics and calls them in for a talk.
Our Take(Spoilers):
I had a feeling that we were going to get a love triangle of sorts based on the preview for this episode. But that wasn’t what we got at all. I don’t know whether I’m happy or disappointed. Normally, I don’t like love triangles, but I was thinking that maybe some competition might jumpstart the romance we’re here for.
Turns out that the student council president, Shirayuri, might be in love with her childhood friend and wants advice from Yukiya and Miku. They never told her that they were playing a “love game,” but she somehow knew. I don’t have a problem with her catching on to the two of them doing something, but her calling it a “love game” when only they call it that was weird.
Other than that, I’m looking forward to seeing how this might help our main couple. Maybe if they help another pair of childhood friends get together, it will help them realize their own feelings and whatnot. If that’s the case, then I’ll at least look forward to that because someone will get together, I guess.
I might have misunderstood how the love game works as well. I was under the impression that Yukiya and Miku were trying to get the others’ hearts to “skip a beat” and would then win. But for her research, Shirayuri asks Yukiya if his heart skipped a beat after doing something with Miku, and he admits that it sped up at the very least. I thought that would mean he lost the love game, but apparently not cause they’re still playing the damn thing.
I’m also hoping that this arc with Shirayuri lasts a bit because, as I was thinking about it, we haven’t had too many other characters in this show. Other than Wakana, Yukiya’s sister, it has mostly been a whole season of Yukiya and Miku, and that’s it. So, it will be nice to spend some time with characters that aren’t the same two we’ve been with.
Anime this season has been a bit weird because usually you have shows ending at the same time. This was only the eighth episode of this show, but some of the others of the season were in episode ten or eleven. That means we have a little more time than I thought for this to pick up and hopefully let this new arc breathe a bit.
