Deepening the Canvas: Prime Video Makes Massive Statement with Inaugural Annecy Animation Slate

Signaling an ambitious and aggressive expansion into premium adult animation, Prime Video made its highly anticipated debut at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival with its first-ever Studio Focus Panel. Gathering top-tier creators at the Salle de la Volière, the streamer pulled back the curtain on major renewals, surprise casting announcements, and exclusive first looks that position the platform as a premier destination for elevated animated storytelling.

Led by Melissa Wolfe, Head of Animation at Prime Video, the panel leaned heavily into the strategy of turning beloved comic books, webcomics, and crowdfunded blockbusters into massive global franchises.

‘Invincible’ Secures Historic Season 6 Renewal and Adds Jack Quaid

The biggest news out of the panel belonged to Skybound Animation’s flagship series, Invincible. Series creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman alongside Melissa Wolfe officially announced that the hit superhero drama has been renewed for a sixth season. This massive multi-season security officially makes Invincible the longest-running animated series to date for Prime Video.

The announcement comes on the heels of Season 4 continuing its unbroken critical streak, maintaining a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes while ranking as the show’s most-watched season to date.

But fans won’t have to wait years for fresh blood. Kirkman revealed that Emmy-nominee Jack Quaid is officially joining the universe for the upcoming Season 5. Quaid will voice the character of “Gravitator/Chris,” a major casting addition that was celebrated with an exclusive, in-room footage clip for the festival audience.

Heavy Hitting Updates: ‘Helluva Boss’ and Critical Role Expansions

The panel also provided highly anticipated release windows and narrative teasers for Prime Video’s expanding stable of adult animation mainstays:

Helluva Boss (October 14, 2026)

Creator and executive producer Vivienne Medrano took the stage to announce that the first block of Helluva Boss Season 3 will officially premiere on Prime Video on Monday, October 14. Medrano treated the crowd to a first-look trailer showcasing the signature crude humor, musical numbers, and underworld chaos that fans have come to expect from the indie-to-streaming phenomenon.

Critical Role Universes

Executive producer and voice actor Sam Riegel represented the massive Critical Role universe by bringing exclusive clips from both The Legend of Vox Machina and the upcoming The Mighty Nein animated series. The Vox Machina teaser gave attendees a thrilling glimpse of episode 410, featuring a high-stakes showdown between Pike and the villainous Whispered One.

Future Pipelines

The panel closed by reaffirming development timelines on several high-profile literary and comic book adaptations previously greenlit by the streamer. Attendees were treated to updates on the upcoming animated adaptation of the dark horror comic Wytches, Rachel Smythe’s smash-hit webcomic Lore Olympus, and the comedic workplace venture Odd Jobs.

“The announcements we shared reflect the scale of our ambition,” Wolfe stated during the closing remarks. “Animation isn’t a genre, it’s a canvas. We’re building a home where the best creators in the world want to tell their biggest stories.”
