South Park Creators Delay New Episode, Citing Deadline Miss

A new episode of South Park will not air as scheduled after creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone announced that they “didn’t get it done in time.” The fifth episode of Season 27, which was originally set to air on Wednesday, September 17, has been postponed to September 24.

In a statement, the duo took responsibility for the delay, acknowledging their famously tight production schedule. “Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don’t get it done,” they said. “This one’s on us.” This marks an extremely rare occasion for the show to miss a deadline, with the last notable delay occurring in 2013 due to a power outage.

The news comes after a recent controversy in which a previous episode, “Got a Nut,” which parodied conservative activist Charlie Kirk, was pulled from Comedy Central’s rerun schedule following Kirk’s death. While the creators did not directly link the delay to this event, some fans have speculated that the creators may be adjusting the new episode in light of recent events. After the delayed episode airs, the show will continue with a bi-weekly schedule.
