Following online speculation regarding the vocal strain in recent seasons, the creative team behind TV’s longest-running prime-time animated series reaffirmed their total commitment to the legendary voice actress, while also revealing a packed slate for Season 37.

Keeping Julie Kavner at the Center of Springfield

Producers clarified at Ballroom 20 that there are zero plans to recast Marge Simpson. Kavner, who has voiced Marge (alongside sisters Patty and Selma and mother Jacqueline) since The Tracey Ullman Show in 1987, remains irreplaceable. Showrunners emphasized that Marge’s performance is intrinsically tied to Kavner, and any natural vocal evolution simply reflects nearly four decades of history.

The spooky special will feature guest voice work from Idris Elba, Michael Keaton, and Viola Davis. Rumor has it that a Solar Opposites couch gag is also incoming.

SDCC attendees were also treated to an exclusive world-premiere clip from an upcoming narrative arc described as a “chilling story” that promises to upend core dynamics for Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie… and Barney.
