English Dub Review: My Hero Academia: Vigilantes “Makoto/Truth”
Overview:
Makoto offers to help a struggling Koichi with his studies, but she requests something surprising.
Our Take:
This episode shows us the jealous side of Pop-Step when Koichi brings Makoto home to help with his studies. She happened to be at his place already and had to hide during the study session. I would have chalked that one up to unlucky timing, but then she followed Koichi and Makoto around when they went out at a different time. It’s clear that she’s jealous, but I wish she would be more honest with her feelings, but that would mean she would have to tell the truth about being rescued by Koichi, too.
Makoto is the younger sister of Naomasa, the detective who works with All Might and other heroes. I’m not surprised that she has an interest in heroes and vigilantes. Turns out she has a quirk called polygraph, where as long as she’s touching someone, she can tell if their lying. At the end of their time together, she shakes Koichi’s hand and asks him if he’s “The Crueller”. When he says no, it’s recognized as the truth because he’s “The Crawler”. I guess getting off on a technicality is good, too.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
