English Dub Review: Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S “Hot Guy Kobayashi! (In Many Senses)”
Overview
After being forcibly transformed into a male by Ilulu through magic, Kobayashi spends the day fighting her sexual urges until the spell Ilulu placed in her wears off. Afterward, Ilulu is targeted by Cremene, a dragon hunter from the Harmony Faction, and despite the previous episode where Ilulu tried to kill everyone, Kobayashi takes a stand to protect her…
Our Take
Another decent episode. Enjoyable if we ignore the bizarre and disturbing implications of Kobayashi being transformed into a guy with actual male genitals, and even though her appearance hasn’t changed much, she still has to tread this fine line very carefully with comedic effect. Outside of that, I dig the dynamics between Kobayashi and the other dragons, especially with Ilulu.
On the subject of Ilulu as a character, I also loved how they have carefully woven Illulu’s flashbacks to her childhood in that conversation with Kobayashi. as it did its job in selling the drama of the emotional moment. In a nutshell, Ilulu’s life is pretty much one that the adult dragons have dictated her way of living, it’s sad to see such atrocity that has never changed between the same beings.
Aside from the episode’s weirdness, and the not-so-subtle sexual innuendo’s, and other moments of wackiness, this episode was fun despite how brisk the pacing felt. I thought Ilulu’s back story was effectively told as it shows that she isn’t really evil by nature and her reasons why she disliked humans so much. It’s going to be interesting to see just how much more plot we get this season, as we certainly seem to be shifting somewhat towards that with the Harmony faction sending that guy to Earth after Ilulu…

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
