A History of “The Simpsons” in Video Games
The Simpsons: Bart vs the World

Developer: Imagineering, Arc Developments
Publisher: Acclaim Entertainment, Virgin Interactive Entertainment
Platforms: NES, Amiga, Atari ST, Game Gear, Sega Master System
Release Date: 1991
The fourth Simpsons video game to be released in 1991 was the NES original Bart vs the World, which was later adapted for other platforms. The game features Bart, as the only available player, winning the opportunity to go on a scavenger hunt around the world. The 2D side-scrolling adventure has Mr. Burns once again playing the villain as he sends out agents and his own family members to take Bart out for good, including the extremely racist Fu Manchu Burns. Bart uses firecrackers to defeat his enemies, but for the first time, Bart can transform into his superhero alter ego Bartman and gain the ability of flight. There are also many additional puzzles including a Simpsons trivia that references moments in the show’s previous episodes. Reviews on the game were mixed, but most critics agreed that this was an upgrade from the previous NES game Bart vs the Space Mutants.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
