English Dub Review: Kaiju Girl Caramelise “Rairi’s Forest”
Overview:
A field trip gives Kuroe and Minami a chance to grow closer, while Rairi deals with an unexpected problem.
Our Take(Spoilers):
This show is becoming one of my favorites I’ve seen in a long time. Everything I’ve wanted in a romcom and things I didn’t know that I wanted are all here. A couple that gets together early on? Check. That same couple shares their first kiss? Check. They also technically kiss when one of the characters is a giant kaiju? Didn’t know I wanted that, but check!
Okay, I think that last part needs a little bit of an explanation. Remember how Rairi explained that there was a guy who led her on, and that is what got her into makeup? Well, that guy happens to be on the same field trip, and he doesn’t recognize her. Rairi decides to mess with him, and they go out on a boat on the lake. He begins to talk shit about Rairi, not knowing that’s who he’s with. As you can imagine, this leads to her getting pissed off, and she ends up in the water.
If you didn’t know this, water gets rid of makeup, and now Rairi is in a bind because not only will the guy know that it’s her, but she’s worried her friends will think less of her if they know how she really looks. This leads Kuroe to kiss Minami in order to force a transformation and try to distract people so Rairi can put on her makeup.
It was interesting to see that Kuroe is starting to be more in control of her kaiju transformation. She was thinking of helping Rairi and scooped her up in her hand. But water gets displaced when something large suddenly appears in it, so that led to a bit of a flooding issue, and someone was stuck. Kuroe moved Rairi over to help the person.
She almost hurt the guy who was mean to Rairi until Minami came to her and told her that if she hurt him, then people would be more scared of Harugon. Kuroe heard him and leaned down and “kissed” him in her kaiju form. It was more like she bumped him, but that didn’t stop a newspaper from taking a picture and running with it. Minami is now known as “Harugon’s Prince”. The only thing I could want now is for someone to know Kuroe is Harugon and see how that is processed.
