Viz Media Acquires RWBY Franchise From Rooster Teeth
Rooster Teeth has been teasing an announcement for several weeks now and we now have that announcement…Viz Media has acquired the RWBY franchise from the now defunct Rooster Teeth.
Not much else is known about the acquisition except for some quick notes on the Viz Media blog which notes that Kerry Shawcross will be a part of the RWBY franchise in some capacity and that new volumes, including volume 10, are in the works and that Viz Media is looking to continue to deepen the ties that Viz has with the RWBY franchise which has been noted over the last few years largely in a publishing capacity.
Where RWBY is going is anyone’s guess, but one location (two locations if you count the now dead Rooster Teeth) seems to be off the market…Crunchyroll. Earlier this week the largest anime streamer in the world removed RWBY Volumes 1-9 so,now, there’s no way to stream any of the episodes that have already aired. Viz Media has commented that there will be an announcement for that sometime soon, so keep it locked here. In the meantime, here’s an announcement teaser from RWBY notables.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
