English Dub Review: Hana-Kimi “Teacher’s Boyfriend?”

Akiha talks the gang into doing a test shoot. He’s a good photographer, but is he also Umeda’s boyfriend?
Our Take(Spoilers):
We learned a little bit more about the photographer, Hara, in this episode. He came into the on-campus doctor’s office when he heard a familiar voice. You might recall in the last episode that Umeda didn’t want Hara to see him. Now we have a little bit of a better idea why.
Hara had a bit of a crush on Umeda back in the day, which I guess isn’t too hard to see because he’s a good-looking guy. Hara decided to invite Mizuki to an art gallery that was showing off his photos. While there, Mizuki saw one photo that grabbed her attention. It was titled “Goddess,” and Hara mentioned that it was a photo of his ex-wife. As you can imagine, Mizuki was a little bit confused because of what happened earlier with Hara and Umeda.
I was a little confused as well, but Hara made a lot of sense with his explanation. He said that he simply likes beautiful people and doesn’t care whether they’re a man or a woman. Fair enough, and when his ex-wife comes in to handle makeup later, I can see why he married her. I do hope we learn why they split up, though.
Since everyone was already at Hara’s studio, he asked if they would be willing to participate in a test shoot. One of the things I loved about this situation was that we got to see Sano getting a little more jealous of other guys spending time with Mizuki. But I think he knows that he has nothing to worry about at this point when he hears Mizuki sleep talking calling him sexy.
With this being an anime based on a shojo manga, it makes sense that it’s full of beautiful men. So it also stands to reason that Hara is going to want to photograph all of them. Sano is the standout because you would think that he’s done this before, given how well he does it.
I’m not hating this show as much as I did with the first season, but I would still like to see a little bit more happen. Sano knows that Mizuki is a girl, and I want them both to know that soon. The fact that I want to know more about Hara and his ex-wife than the “main” couple isn’t the best sign for a rom-com.
