English Dub Review: Yowayowa Sensei “A Weak and Wimpy ‘Best Summer Ever'”

Overview:

The best summer ever isn’t about one moment. It’s about spending time together.

Our Take(Spoilers):

Abikura might have come up with the best light novel title. I’m honestly surprised that one like this doesn’t exist. Remember when I mentioned that Hiyori feels like Abikura and his sister are like her mom? Well, Abikura comments on spending the summer with his crush, who thinks he’s her mommy. I’d read that light novel, and I’m sure that I’m not alone in that.

One of the things that was really cute to me was the type of photo that everyone chose as their “best summer ever” photo. Everyone’s photo was a group photo with everyone together. It was nice to see that, even though they all got together under less-than-scrupulous terms, they all have grown to like each other. Some of the crew were embarrassed that they came to this conclusion, so they went back to their perverted ways. Turns out that there was some small print to this summer contest where you were also supposed to take a sexy photo as well.

Did I mention that if you didn’t bring a photo for the contest, you got a punishment? Well, Abikura didn’t feel comfortable sharing a photo he had of Hiyori, so he had to be punished. His punishment was to dress up in a maid outfit and have photos taken of him.

Yukishita seemed to pick on something that was getting Abikura down. So she asked him to come over, and she surprised him by being in a cat maid cosplay. She also let him grab her boob, and I started to think that maybe I was wrong about this being a harem show. If Yukishita is going out of her way to do this for him, then maybe she’s into him a little bit.

That idea got shot down a few moments later when she took Abikura up to her room, and we saw that Hiyori was there as well. I thought that maybe she was trying to be a cool wingwoman of sorts, but then we see that all of the whole photography club has shown up to try to cheer up Abikura.

The reason that Abikura was feeling down was that he felt that he didn’t do anything to make Hiyori look good in front of Mizuki’s friends. The ones who did the most were Mizuki and Hiyori herself. I can understand why he felt bad, but he should also be proud that she handled it herself. I just hope that soon she realizes that the feelings she has for Abikura aren’t her thinking that he’s her “mommy”.
