English Dub Review: Kirio Fanclub “Kirio Fanclub”
Overview
Kirio reaches his breaking point. Now it’s up to Aimi, Nami, and his friends to bring him back from the brink…
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, the season finale brings everything to an unexpectedly emotional conclusion while balancing its absurd comedy with much heavier subject matter, particularly involving Kirio. The rooftop confrontation is especially effective, with a nice callback to an earlier song and some genuinely heartfelt character moments. It’s also where certain feelings are finally made explicit, though most of them were hardly a secret by this point.
What makes the finale work is how naturally it brings the cast together while maintaining the bizarre sense of humor that defined the series. The crude jokes and ridiculous antics won’t work for everyone, and I understand that the potential wackiness of the early episodes may have turned some viewers away. However, that same unhinged style eventually became part of the show’s charm, making the characters surprisingly endearing while giving the more serious moments greater impact.
Overall, this was a surprisingly touching and memorable conclusion to such an unconventional coming-of-age series. It’s rare to see something swing between ridiculous comedy and genuine emotional weight without completely losing its identity, and while I’m not sure I’d rush to rewatch it, I’m glad I stuck with it. What initially seemed like nothing more than an outrageous comedy became an unexpectedly heartfelt experience.
