English Dub Review: Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines “Let’s Have a Talk About Responsibility”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Chika begins to buckle under her new responsibilities as Literature Club President, but Kazuhiko decides to take matters into his own hands.
OUR TAKE
Oh okay, I guess we’re gonna be doing Chika related stuff until the end of the series, great. I mean it’s not like I dislike Chika or anything or think that she doesn’t deserve some further focus before the end of the season. I just kinda thought that we would be giving more focus back to the other two girls in the cast as a kind of milestone or check in just in case this ended up being the only season. Then again, now that I think about it, the whole “becoming literature club president” stuff would’ve felt a little unresolved because of how Chika was feeling about it. Still, I never expected her to be so rattled by it that Kazuhiko would have to step in and become president himself! I suppose we can’t exactly have the main guy character be a subordinate this whole time now can we, haha. But no I’m sure that’s not the reason. We gotta give Kazuhiko something to actually DO so being the one in charge of the club does at least sound like a way to keep him active. He had social anxieties too, after all, and now he gets to test those while also being responsible for his three classmates who are in the club.
That just leaves one episode left, which also looks like it’ll be an Anna episode based on a brief look at the synopsis. As much as I would also like to see Lemon get an episode to herself, it does make sense for Anna to be the book end to everything seeing as she was the one who this all started with. She’s kind of the one who helped Kazuhiko break out of his shell and has been supporting him emotionally through a lot of this, even when she’s not the focus of the episodes, so yeah, her having the last plot be partially about her does make sense. It’s been a pretty wild ride going through this show and trying to figure out what the hell this unorthodox structure was going to lead to, but it seems it led to a pretty wholesome high school non-romcom. Though we still have to confirm just how “non” that romcom is, which I think we’ll look forward to seeing the conclusion of next week in the season, and possibly series, finale. And even if it is for the series, there’s always the manga.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
