The Simpsons: Stoopid Buddy Stoodios Produced A Yarn Opening For Upcoming Episode

The Simpsons were just renewed for two additional seasons last month and it’s because the series has managed to stay fresh after 34 seasons on FOX. Even with the writers of the show’s first ten seasons (seen as the “golden era” of the show) largely gone like John Swartzwelder, Bill Oakley, and others, the new seasons have been delivering their own brand of show, largely in the aesthetic. Whether it’s episodes inspired by anime, two-part episodes, or the Treehouse of Horrors continuing to be crazy as all hell, The Simpsons are just as watchable as ever. I’m still not a big fan of the voice actor purge from a couple of seasons ago, but the influx of new characters have largely taken the focus on some of those characters, so you give some and you get some.

One of my favorite traditions that is a bit more recent is when they let other animation studios and producers mess with the iconic opening intro of the show. Bill Plympton did one earlier this season for the show’s second episode, and now it looks like Stoopid Buddy Stoodios is also returning to the fray to take another whack at The Simpsons’ opening bit.

Just in time for the show’s return, producer Al Jean has announced that Stoopid Buddy Stoodios will be producing a stop-motion animated intro, this one with yarn. The intro will be part of the 2023 premiere of The Simpsons entitled “The Many Saints of Springfield”. In it, when Ned Flanders falls on hard times, Fat Tony (Joe Mantegna) makes him an offer he can’t refuse. The episode premieres February 19th @ 8 pm ET/PT, check your local listings.

Synopsis:

The longest-running primetime scripted show in television history, THE SIMPSONS exploded into popular culture in 1989 and has remained one of the most groundbreaking and innovative entertainment franchises, recognizable throughout the world. HOMER (Dan Castellaneta), MARGE (Julie Kavner), BART (Nancy Cartwright), LISA (Yeardley Smith) and MAGGIE are instantly identifiable television icons. Rounding out this cast of characters are many beloved Springfield residents, including tavern proprietor MOE SZYSLAK (Hank Azaria) and nuclear power plant owner MR. BURNS (Harry Shearer). The Emmy Award-, Annie Award- and Peabody Award-winning animated comedy will begin its 34th season this year. In the premiere, Homer is desperate to prove he’s not dumb and sets out to solve the case of the tortoise missing from the zoo. Season 34 also will feature a double dose of “Treehouse of Horror” episodes, marking the first time in the show’s history there have been two “Treehouse”-branded episodes in a single Halloween. One of this fall’s two “Treehouse of Horror” episodes will be a full-length parody of “It,” with Krusty the Clown playing Pennywise, the evil clown character. Guest voice appearances this season include Simu Liu, Anna Faris, John Roberts as BOB’S BURGERS’ Linda Belcher, and Melissa McCarthy, who will play Homer’s rival for Grampa’s love.

THE SIMPSONS is a Gracie Films Production in association with 20th Television. James L. Brooks, Matt Groening, Al Jean and Matt Selman are the executive producers. The Gracie Films Worldwide Brand Division develops and produces the licensed content for the series.
