English Dub Review: FX Fighter Kurumi-chan “What’s Forex?”

The debut episode of FX Fighter Kurumi-chan is an interesting and surprisingly dark introduction to a series that combines cute character designs with the complicated world of foreign-exchange trading. The episode does a good job of establishing Kurumi’s background and explaining why she becomes interested in FX in the first place.

The narrative begins with Kurumi already dealing with a major trading problem, as a forex position continues to move against her. The situation immediately creates a sense of tension. The episode then goes back to Kurumi’s younger years and explains how her family became connected to forex.

Kurumi’s mother was once heavily involved in FX trading and eventually lost 20 million yen. The situation had a major impact on Kurumi, who observed firsthand how financial difficulties can affect people. Kurumi becomes determined to understand forex and eventually recover the money her mother lost. That’s her clear motivation. She would do everything it takes to master FX, learning mathematics and market dynamics.

The personal reason behind her interest in trading gives her actions much more emotional weight and makes her endeavor significantly riskier.

The episode also introduces some basic ideas behind forex trading, including buying and selling currencies, profits and losses, and trends. One thing that stands out is that even though FX success is at the centre of the story, FX trading isn’t glorified. The stress and struggles seem rather realistic.

What is really surprising is the dark tone of the narrative. Despite the cute visual style and somewhat unusual premise, there are some genuinely disturbing moments involving Kurumi’s family. These scenes reinforce the seriousness of the narrative.

Overall, FX Fighter Kurumi-chan Episode 1 is an intriguing start. The combination of finance, personal drama, and convincing characters is certainly unconventional. The episode takes some time to establish Kurumi’s background, but the setup works well and leaves plenty of room for the story to develop. It’ll be interesting to see how Kurumi fares from here.
