Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, Trapped in a Dating Sim continues to balance its ridiculous humor with the increasingly serious conflict. The Royal Ship’s activation method being based on “the power of love” leads to one of the episode’s funniest moments, especially with an actual love meter being used to determine who can operate it. The results provide plenty of comedy while also highlighting the surprisingly strong chemistry between Angelica and Olivia. Even with the high stakes, the episode never completely loses that goofy charm that makes the series so entertaining.

The episode also gives Hertrude some much-needed depth. She isn’t simply a terrible person, but someone who grew up believing a deeply distorted version of history her kingdom taught her, without knowing the full extent of its uglier past. Watching her begin to question what she thought she knew adds another layer to the conflict and makes her character much more sympathetic. Meanwhile, Leon continues to struggle with the weight of his responsibilities as the situation around him becomes increasingly dangerous.

Overall, this was one of the stronger episodes of the season, successfully mixing comedy, character development, and rising tension. The love-meter sequence is easily one of the funniest parts, while the increasingly serious direction gives the episode more emotional weight. Leon’s growing frustration and the consequences of the conflict suggest that the story is heading into much darker territory, making this a particularly effective setup for what comes next.
