English Dub Review: Tomb Raider King “The Secret of the Crow”

Jooheon is offered a job finding a relic for the “Queen of War,” an American military general.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, Yoo Jae-ha continues to be a fun addition, while Seo Joo-heon learns more about the mysterious Crow relic. I’m curious about why Crow trusts a human despite its history, and what exactly caused its hatred toward the other relics. Sierra Clark also seems like a potentially dangerous opponent, while the American group chasing the same relic as Joo-heon feels more like a dysfunctional family than an organized team LOL. The action is plentiful this week, with the fight involving the steel pipe relic user looking pretty solid.

The rest of the proceedings start going pretty well at first until some of the action starts getting a little too convenient. Characters and situations seem to disappear when the plot needs them to, while the rules surrounding certain relic abilities remain unclear. I know this is fantasy, but the series could still benefit from being more consistent with its own logic. The dialogue can also feel pretty forced at times, although the “Wait, are we the bad guys?” moment was genuinely funny.

Overall, the series is still entertaining, but it’s starting to wear a little thin because things come so easily to Joo-heon. There’s a constant stream of relics and opponents for him to deal with, and his ability to make enemies out of basically everyone might be his greatest talent.  The animation is decent but inconsistent, and the dialogue could definitely use some work. Still, I’m interested in learning more about the Crow and seeing where the story goes from here. Enough is going on to keep me watching, even if I’m hoping the series starts giving Joo-heon a little more of a challenge.
