English Dub Review: Thunder 3 “GAME ON”
Overview
The Rebellion announces a guerrilla attack in Shibuya, and Segami resolves to join—meanwhile, a distraught Futaba stumbles upon a furry winged creature.
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, Thunder 3 shifts its attention toward Futaba and the resistance as the conflict finally begins to escalate. Futaba befriending the adorable Kyuu was a nice touch, giving her some much-needed companionship while also expanding the alien side of the story. Meanwhile, Segami is thrown into battle with barely any preparation, leading to some amusing moments as he struggles to understand his equipment and newfound abilities.
Unfortunately, the resistance storyline is where the rest of the proceedings start to drag. Their lack of preparation makes the group feel woefully under-equipped, with the rushed briefing and reliance on digital manuals making their first major confrontation feel more chaotic than compelling. The episode finally provides a sense that the story is moving toward something bigger, but much of the buildup feels stretched, especially compared to the more engaging moments involving Futaba’s antics…
Overall, this is easily one of the slower episodes that left more to be desired with its uneven pacing and limited focus on the main trio, making the wait for the bigger payoff feel longer than it should. That said, the episode does sprinkle in enough intriguing ideas, humor, and unanswered questions to suggest that the story is finally approaching its next major turning point. It may not completely win you over yet, but the groundwork is clearly being laid for things to get considerably more chaotic from here.
