English Dub Review: Clevatess “The Hero Legend and the Village of Origin”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Alicia talks with a former enemy to try and get information on Drel’s hidden room, while Klen has an unexpected meeting with his peers about an incoming threat.
OUR TAKE
While the first two episodes of this season were mainly about establishing the new premise and showing the new threats that were present in the new setting of Solein, now we have to get to actually doing some investigating to work towards uncovering what our main characters are here to find, namely Drel’s remaining research within the school. And despite the joint ceasefire between Haiden, Eslinn, and Boelate to find this stuff, Eslinn and Boelate have their own goals as well. We saw Naie being assigned as a teacher to Solsein in a similar task as Alicia and Klen, but Yuriel, the ruler of Eslinn, is sending his big hulking warrior to do some big stuff in Haiden as well. Back at Solsein itself, Klen decides to hang out with some of their new school friends…two of which turn out to be vessels for two of the other three Demon Beasts, Zavtheir of the West (who uses the short student Sarasa as her vessel for this meeting), and Rathwell of the East (who hides out in the timid student Edison Rukereft. For reference, Clevatess is the Beast of the South. And as Klen points out, three of the four great beasts together (something I didn’t expect to happen this soon, if ever) is not a simple social call, but basically a meeting about what to do about the Beast of the North, Vordin of Scorchfire, who apparently has a vessel in the vicinity as well and may be plotting something extreme regarding the “Hero Legend”, a prophecy that details a hero’s journey to destroy the Four Great Beasts.
While Klen looks into that, Alicia does her own sleuthing, eventually confronting Naie, despite her still working for an enemy country on the same quest, hoping that they can destroy what Drel hid before the school can become a warzone. Naie and Alicia realize the connection to the Hero Legend as well, as well as recalling Drel’s near obsession with realizing it, so it stands to reason that his remaining research may be about finding more about the reality behind the legend, and possibly uncovering multiple existing books that each cover a “chapter” of it. So, what was initially about finding and disposing of the remains of a dead man’s research is now about keeping it from powerful kingdoms and a powerful Dark Beast from taking hold of it, as well as finding out who among the school is secretly a vessel for that beast. The plot continues to thicken and the stakes raise higher, especially for Alicia, who finds herself snared in a trap by the same forces who manipulated Nathan. So, glad to see that while there’s more to keep track of, the plot is definitely getting more interesting as it continues to build. More on all of that and figuring out more of the new mysteries next time!
