Hunting the Elite: Hit Webtoon ‘Hero Killer’ Receives Animated Series Adaptation from Passion Paris and ADN
The massive global boom of webtoon adaptations is expanding into European production pipelines. During the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Parisian animation powerhouse Passion Paris officially announced a major co-production agreement with French anime streaming platform ADN to adapt the hit Webtoon comic Hero Killer into a premium animated action series.
The partnership marks a significant development for both entities: it serves as the first major serialized action project for Passion Paris—a studio highly regarded for its stylized short-form work and visual contributions to major prestige platforms—while cementing ADN’s aggressive push into co-financing dark, mature comic adaptations for an international audience.
A Blood-Soaked Quest Against Corrupt Icons
Originally created by the creative duo Kkulbeol and Beolkkul and published via NAVER Webtoon, Hero Killer has amassed a massive, dedicated global readership thanks to its uncompromising, dark-fantasy premise and intensely kinetic fight sequences.
The story takes place in a dystopian world where “Heroes”—individuals gifted with extraordinary, superhuman abilities—have completely defeated the forces of villainy. However, rather than ushering in a golden age of peace, these absolute protectors have devolved into a corrupt, hyper-capitalistic elite class, ruling society through corporate greed, media manipulation, and hidden cruelty.
The narrative follows Ihwa, a fiercely lethal and vengeful young woman on a relentless, solitary crusade to assassinate every single hero in existence. Driven by the mysterious murder of her older sister at the hands of the elite class, Ihwa must navigate a treacherous underworld of rogue factions, utilizing her rare ability to temporarily copy the powers of the corrupt heroes she slaughters.
Technical Craft and Global Distribution Strategy
To honor the incredibly detailed, sharp, and stylized artwork of the original Korean comic, Passion Paris is deploying a highly fluid hybrid animation approach. The studio aims to merge traditional hand-drawn character fluidities with dynamic camera work and rich environmental depth, ensuring that the webtoon’s trademark, environment-shattering fight choreography translates seamlessly into long-form television production.
The strategic backing of ADN ensures that the series is being tailored strictly toward a mature, older-skewing demographic that craves complex morality, visceral action, and intricate political subplots.
With production officially underway following the high-profile Annecy presentation, this collaboration serves as a direct indicator of Europe’s growing desire to act as a primary production hub for premium, high-stakes comic-to-screen adaptations.
