English Dub Review: Mistress Kanan Is Devilishly Easy “Lilim’s Test of Defeat”
Overview:
Kyougi and Kanan learn how Lilim met Kanan’s father, then Lilim tests their relationship with her seduction.
Our Take:
This might have been one of the horniest episodes of an anime I’ve watched since High School DxD. Ironic that they both involve demons, but luckily, this is much less of a harem show. Actually, now that I think about it, no one else but Kanan has shown any interest in Kyougi. Sure, Lilim, Kanan’s mother, makes some moves on him in this episode, but that’s more played up for laughs than anything.
The one thing that really threw me off was the backstory we got showing how Lilim and Beelzebub met and got married. We also learned why Lilim hates being around men so much. While her parents were trying to marry her off, she had a lot of male suitors. They were so aggressive about their affections that it put her off men. But Beelzebub was different because he showed no interest in her, and of course, that piqued her interest.
The thing that threw me off was that the Beelzebub we see in this flashback is considerably younger. He looked almost like a child, but his voice was the same as it is now. It was a bit of a shock to see such a deep, commanding voice come out of a character that looks like a child. I also can’t help but wonder if the reason he wears a mask now is so that he can make his wife more comfortable, and if I’m right about that, that’s pretty sweet.
On the subject of voices, I have to talk about Corey Pettit. I don’t think I’ve spent a lot of time talking about her yet, but her performance as Kanan is fantastic. When she starts yelling about different things, I can’t help but smile because there’s something about the way she yells. Normally, it wouldn’t be enjoyable to listen to, but somehow, when Kanan gets angry, it is. The role I know her best from is Hahari Hanazono in The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You. I forget every time, and when I check her VA page, I’m surprised every time. That’s how different her voice is for Kanan.
If the rest of Kanan’s family is anything to go by, I’m gonna guess that this show is going to get a lot hornier before this arc is done. I’m most looking forward to Kanan and Kyougi trying to get Beelzebub’s stamp of approval because I’m sure we’ll learn more about him, and he’s the one I’m most interested in currently.
