English Dub Review: Liar Game “Light and Darkness”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Nao makes a desperate ploy to climb out from the depths of despair.

Our Take:
You know, I originally thought Fujisawa deserved to be in debt after the way he treated Nao.  However, the previous three episodes that started with “Initiative” proved me otherwise with the character who’s as awful, if not worse than Nao’s former teacher.  Through her manipulative persona and her exploitation of the tournament’s conditions, Fuji proved herself cunning and dangerous by the number of times she has tricked her victims.  Despite everyone knowing her tricks, they keep falling for them anyway because Fuji is always one step ahead.  Some may argue that they’re to blame for being her suckers, especially Nao, but her wily schemes are enough to make us point daggers at that witch.
“Light and Darkness” is obviously no different in this case, with Nao being challenged by Fuji to the latter’s own “winner-take-all” challenge.  Unsurprisingly, like in the previous episodes, Fuji doesn’t know how to play fair.  Thankfully, Akiyama arrives just in time to get Nao out of a tight spot.  This episode further highlights Fuji’s drive to win at any cost, even if it means cheating and exploiting the lying system.  It really knows how to make me wish that people like Fuji would receive more karma sooner rather than later, including being twice as much in debt.  But it’s people like Fuji who make the stakes a bit more interesting, as Nao’s kindness struggles to overcome others’ deceitfulness.  Fortunately, thanks to Akiyama’s teachings, Nao may have found a solution to use her generosity to her advantage.
