English Dub Review: An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess “Observation Log of a Self-Proclaimed Villainess and a Doll.”

Overview:

Cecil has been knocked unconscious by the light spirit, Pii-chan, who makes him live in a what-if world in a realm of pure consciousness. The Cecil of that world, where everything unfolds according to the game’s original scenario, is as cold and emotionless as a doll, and as Cecil experiences that for himself, his own consciousness begins drifting closer to that of a doll, too.

Our Take(Spoiler):

This episode was hard for me to follow. This was the first time I rewatched an episode as well. Heronia’s light spirit, Pii-chan, transports Cecil to another realm that shows him how things would have gone if he had followed the game’s original scenario. Honestly, this episode made me sad because I didn’t like seeing Cecil sad. Not only that, but the alternate version of Bertia and her father was so awful that it was hard to watch.

Kelly Greenshield voices Bertia, and while I was already a fan of her, this episode made me love her. Hearing the side of Bertia from when she was a true villainess was fantastic! It made me sad to be sure, but it was also interesting to see Kelly essentially play two different characters in one. Luckily, it seems like we’ll be back with the Bertia we know and love in the next episode.

With Summer anime starting to wrap up, I was worried this was about to be the final episode. I should have just counted; this is only the ninth episode, and I believe we’ll have three more. That gets me excited because with one of the main conflicts (seemingly) resolved, that will give time for some romance to develop.

We’ve seen so many other characters couple up in this show that it doesn’t seem right that our two leads have made almost no progress. Part of that is because Bertia has spent all her time trying to hook Cecil up with Heronia. Now that she’s seen Heronia harm Cecil and realize her own feelings, I think we’ll finally get somewhere with these two idiots. I don’t want to see the villainess version of Bertia ever again, so I hope this is the last time we have to witness that.

I do feel bad for Pii-chan because he acted in Heronia’s best interest to get her with Cecil. Getting with Cecil was Heronia’s “destiny” after all. There’s a small part of me that feels bad for Heronia as well. She was so stubbornly chasing this one thing that she didn’t make time for anything else. Now that Pii-chan is disappearing, she’ll be all alone. But that was the bed she made, and now she has to sleep in it.
