English Dub Review: Kill Blue “The Pacifier Duel”
Overview
Juzo is still uneasy about pretending to date Noren. But then Shin Kohazame, a middle-school assassin from the Chinese underworld group Yuigan, transfers into her school to become her fiancé and claim Mitsuoka Pharmaceutical’s research and new drug. Shin challenges Noren’s “boyfriend” Juzo to a duel, and their battle begins!
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, Juzo quickly realizes that pretending to date Noren is far more complicated than expected, especially once other students and outside groups begin taking an interest in her. Rumors spread around the school, new rivals emerge, and the bizarre rules surrounding Noren’s family make the situation even more chaotic. The episode fully embraces its over-the-top premise, blending school comedy, assassin absurdity, and battle-shonen-style rivalries in a way that constantly feels ridiculous yet entertaining.
The introduction of a new assassin adds most of the episode’s humor, with his strange personality and unconventional fighting style leading to several hilariously awkward moments. Beneath all the comedy, however, the episode also clarifies Juzo’s motivations. It carefully steers the story away from uncomfortable territory by emphasizing his protective, fatherly feelings toward Noren rather than romance. That emotional angle surprisingly gives the series a more heartfelt core, especially as Juzo reflects on his own regrets and begins genuinely wanting to protect Noren from the chaos surrounding her.
Overall, this was a bizarre but surprisingly wholesome episode that balanced absurd comedy with meaningful character development. The fights and humor remain intentionally over-the-top, but the series works best when it focuses on Juzo’s growing sense of responsibility and the strange relationships forming around him. While the premise continues to get weirder with every new challenger, the episode succeeds by keeping its emotional center grounded beneath all the insanity.
