Tarantino’s Complete Vision: ‘Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair’ Lands December Theatrical Release With New Animated Short

For two decades, fans of Quentin Tarantino’s martial arts epic have yearned for the director’s true, seamless cut of the story. Now, Lionsgate is answering the call, confirming that Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair—the definitive, combined version of Volume 1 and Volume 2—will be released in theaters on December 5, 2025.

The combined film, which removes the cliffhanger ending of Vol. 1 and the recap at the beginning of Vol. 2, clocks in at over four hours, promising an uninterrupted and cohesive revenge saga starring Uma Thurman as The Bride.

Crucially, this release is generating significant buzz among animation enthusiasts, as it will include a never-before-seen, 7½-minute animated sequence.

Kill Bill is famous for its use of anime, particularly in the stylized, bloody backstory of O-Ren Ishii, which was produced by the renowned Japanese animation studio Production I.G. The inclusion of this substantial, previously unreleased animated footage is a major draw for fans and provides a fascinating link back to the medium of animation, similar to the labor-intensive techniques of films like Loving Vincent. This extended sequence promises a deeper dive into the characters’ histories and the film’s signature blend of high-octane action and graphic artistry.

Quentin Tarantino, who wrote and directed the saga, has often spoken about the “The Whole Bloody Affair” cut, which previously saw only highly limited screenings, such as at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival and at his own New Beverly Cinema.

The upcoming theatrical run is set to present the film as the single, monumental piece Tarantino originally envisioned. To further enhance the cinematic event, select presentations of the release will be shown in both 70mm and 35mm formats, offering a premium experience for film aficionados.

This December release finally allows mainstream audiences to witness The Bride’s “roaring rampage of revenge” in its entirety, complete with the restored narrative flow and the exciting addition of the extended, previously mythical animated footage.
