Adult Swim Unveils First Look at ‘Common Side Effects’ Season 2

Adult Swim has officially dropped a tense first-look teaser for Season 2 of its acclaimed conspiracy-thriller animated series, Common Side Effects.

Created by Joe Bennett and Steve Hely, with executive production from Mike Judge and Greg Daniels (King of the Hill, The Office), the series follows two former high school lab partners, Marshall and Frances, who discover a world-changing miracle mushroom capable of curing all human disease—putting them directly in the crosshairs of ruthless Big Pharma executives and government agencies.

A High-Stakes Confrontation on the Run

The newly released Season 2 footage picks up with Marshall and Frances attempting to go completely under the radar to study the mysterious mushroom’s side effects in secret. Their ultimate plan involves distributing the research to 500 of the world’s top scientists at institutions like Cambridge, Johns Hopkins, and the University of Connecticut in hopes of bringing the cure to humanity before they are captured.

However, their fugitive operations are quickly disrupted. Federal agent Copano tracks Marshall down to an improbable getaway vehicle—an ice cream truck. The confrontation quickly turns heated as Copano holds Marshall at gunpoint over the tragic fallout of their crusade, citing three dead civilians and a near-fatal injury to his own partner.

Marshall fires back, laying the blame squarely on the DEA and FBI for relentlessly hunting them down rather than allowing the miracle cure to be shared. The intense standoff culminates in a desperate escape attempt as Marshall flees the scene under gunfire.

Tonal Ambience and Quiet Tension

The second half of the teaser highlights the show’s signature atmospheric storytelling and darkly awkward humor. Set against a melancholic musical backdrop, Marshall and Frances navigate the quiet, paranoia-inducing reality of life on the run—highlighted by an uncomfortably tense interaction while trying to check into separate motel rooms under assumed names.
