Amazon Backs Fable’s “Netflix of AI” with Launch of Satirical Series Exit Valley

Amazon has thrown its support behind Fable, an AI company aiming to revolutionize streaming with its “Showrunner” platform, dubbed the “Netflix of AI.” This significant investment coincides with the launch of Showrunner’s first original AI-generated series, Exit Valley, a satirical comedy designed to poke fun at the tech world’s most prominent figures.

Fable, led by CEO Edward Saatchi, has been making waves with its generative AI technology, notably creating viral AI-generated South Park episodes that garnered over 80 million views. This success evidently caught Amazon’s attention, leading to an undisclosed investment in the San Francisco-based startup.

Showrunner, which is now publicly launching after a period in closed alpha testing, allows users to create scenes and even full episodes of animated shows using simple text prompts. The platform’s proprietary SHOW-2 AI model handles the writing, animation, voicing, and editing, promising a new era of “playable television” where viewers can also be creators. Users can even insert themselves into scenes or generate entirely new content within existing story worlds.

Exit Valley, Showrunner’s flagship original, is described as a “Family Guy-style” animated comedy set in “Sim Francisco,” a satirical take on Silicon Valley. The series takes aim at well-known AI tech leaders such as Sam Altman and Elon Musk, using humor as a tool for commentary on the power dynamics within the tech industry. Saatchi emphasizes the interactive nature of the platform, where users can contribute to the show’s evolving storylines.

While Fable is initially offering Showrunner for free, it plans to introduce a subscription model, charging creators for “credits” to generate scenes. The company is also exploring partnerships with major studios to license existing intellectual property for AI-generated spin-offs, indicating a broader vision for the future of interactive, AI-driven entertainment. This move by Amazon and Fable signals a significant step towards a more dynamic and user-driven landscape in the streaming world.
