English Dub Review: The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen “The Blasphemous Princess Takes a Stand”

Our Take:
Let’s hit the positives first. Karlii Hoch has become a favorite VA of mine. I’ll try not to double up talking about her here and in my Yowayowa Sensei review as well. But the way she is able to go back and forth between two very different characters is impressive. I know a lot of VAs can do this, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive. Nor does it seem to get asked of a lot of VAs; it seems some get typecast. But now I’ll be on the lookout for Karlii, and if she’s cast in anime I’m covering, I’ll be even more excited.
As for this episode… It’s a bit of a mixed bag. It hyped me up to see Pride address an entire kingdom and put her life on the line along with their kings. What isn’t as hype is this episode ending before the war even starts. The last six or so episodes were building to this, and to see it end this way is a bit disappointing.
This isn’t my first time with an annoying cliffhanger, but this might be one of the first ones that teases such a large event with no sign of a follow-up. Usually by this point we would have already gotten a season three announcement, so the fact we haven’t yet is a bit concerning.
With these isekai shows, I always find it interesting that the people who get reincarnated are usually former shut-ins. They then almost always become these badass leaders, which I find hard to believe. It’s not like the psychological issues would just disappear. Unless knowing that they’re “not themselves” would make some of that stuff easier, perhaps. But eventually this new person you’ve become would start to feel like the real you, I would assume.
On a similar line of thinking, I can’t help but be annoyed that Pride also thinks it’s her fault for how the alternate version of Pride behaved. If I were living a video game and I knew that in the game my character was an asshole, I would try to change things, sure. But I wouldn’t assume that version’s shitty behavior is my cross to bear.
This will be a very interesting season review when I sit down to do it. I’m glad I have a little time to decide how I feel about it because this was a fun season, but it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.
