English Dub Review: Ninja Kamui “Episode 4”
After the car accident, Joe, Emma, and Mike go their separate ways as they continue to look further into Auza.
Once again I feel like the show’s gradually losing steam. As per usual, there’s always a handful of lines that always put a grin on my face, especially when it’s supposed to be taken 100% seriously. Lost it when their version of the Deep Web was a message board with the words “DARK WEB” at the top. The eccentric ridiculousness of the new villains also made for a fun moment, hopefully each of them get a moment to shine properly in the future!
My praises end there unfortunately. The rest of the episode is mostly a scattered mess of flashbacks and exposition. No fight this episode either! Some brief parkour towards the end, but nothing on the level of the first three episodes. Considering I was complaining about how disjointed last episode’s fight was from the main plot– this was a nice surprise.
We get some flashbacks into Joe’s past, how he met Mari, and how his relationship with one of his former comrades Sai, went sour. The episode goes far too fast to meaningfully build up any chemistry with Joe and Mari and presents it more as love at first sight. In the present day we see that Sai’s part of Auza– I’m willing to bet that it’s because he had feelings for her. Love triangles aren’t my favorite trope, but a more gorier take might make me more interested.
Another alright episode of Ninja Kamui. I just want the show to get back to what it does best.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
