English Dub Review: Mashle: Magic and Muscles “Mash Burnedead and the Home Visit”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
The Bureau of Magic calls upon an emergency inquiry regarding the concealment of Mash’s lack of magic, and the Divine Visionaries gather one by one before Mash. The Divine Visionaries seek punishment for Mash on this, but Rayne and Wahlberg bow their heads down in a plea. Thus, the Divine Visionaries offer to defer the punishment on the condition that Mash becomes a Divine Visionary Candidate. Dot and the rest learn of this, and then everyone goes off to have some fun…?

Our Take:
Mash was undoubtedly in a pickle in last week’s episode due to his exposed secret. It also doesn’t help that the mysterious Innocent Zero is targeting the muscular wonder and the academy. Fortunately, he gets an extra hand from Wahlberg and Rayne, who convince the Bureau to give Mash a second chance. They accept, but Mash must take the visionary exam to prove his worth as the academy’s weapon against Innocent Zero. With Mash in the clear, there’s no better time than today for him and his friends to start hanging out, especially since the selection exam is fast approaching.
We are only two episodes into the new season, and in one of them, Mash and his friends are seen having fun outside the academy. This is a well-deserved break for the students since they have gone through a lot in the previous episode and the season one finale. Moreover, it is a satisfying and consistently hilarious change of pace, which offers more goofiness and charm in the characters’ dynamics from a narrative perspective. Of course, this only occurs in the episode’s first half, with Mash experiencing his first day off with his new friends and encountering a few hysterical stuff in town. That includes the Tickle Koala, which brought out the biggest laughs, and a hefty metal wand that Mash picked up easily.
Although it is considered a laid-back episode, it didn’t neglect to advance its seasonal plot amid its silly scenarios by providing a few more adversaries in Mash’s path. One of them is the Divine Visionary Orter Madl, whose obsession with maintaining the world’s balance led him to sabotage Mash before the exam. The other is Orca prefect Margarette Macaron, whom Orter secretly sent to ensure Mash misses the deadline. Fortunately, Rayne stepped in to prevent Margarette from ruining Mash’s family reunion with Regro. With the Divine Visionary seemingly going rogue, Mash would definitely need more help than he can get to survive another year at Easton Magic Academy.
