Our Take

By far, Family Guy gives us one of their best episodes of the season, top-to-bottom, this after struggling the last few weeks. Written by Damien Fahey, this week’s episode featuring Meg as the star of the show gives us a flashback to a time when this show just didn’t give a fuck. To this day, the writers and producers seem to just launch into Meg with no apologies with the result being some of the most side-splitting sequences you’ll see anywhere. First scene, Meg in a dumpster, CLASSIC!

I’m a sucker for TV shows that do a lot of business jokes. As an SMB-owner myself, I can absolutely relate to Meg finding solace in the successes of her hard work and determination. For all I know, I too have my own Mr. Fields out there ready to take the wind out of my sails at any given moment, but the simple idea that the producers went the route that they did for Meg’s eventual downfall was very much master stroke comedic storytelling. And to add to the brilliance of this show’s timing, JUST as Stewie was doing a Gordon Ramsay joke about Kitchen Nightmares, a network bug for Kitchen Nightmares premiering a new episode on Monday night at the EXACT same time. Now, I don’t know if this was serendipitous or was this completely planned because it JUST worked on me, regardless, this franchise is beyond meta at times.

Petey and pals kicking off a TV show was also very entertaining, granted, we’ve seen Peter, Lois, and I think just about everyone else on the show have a TV show within the show and it’s not the most original take. That said, the punchy dialogue was absolutely there, and the cutaway gags were very, very strong tonight (Long Hallway Shark Tank was fantastic, especially when you consider Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane was once a special guest co-presenter), and it was an overall a great time.

If you’re a New England Patriots fan like most of this show’s staff, you haven’t had much to cheer for as of late. As a result, check out this week’s episode of Family Guy, it should help!
