English Dub Review: The Misfit of Demon King Academy “The Misfit”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Avos Dilhevia takes control over Magic Sword of Destruction Venuzdnor at last. Anos gives a calm smile to the enemy, who seizes everything from the Demon King of Tyranny and reigns control, however… The true purpose of Avos taking control over the Magic Sword at the end of the fierce battle is revealed. How does Anos face off against the Child of God, destroyer of the Demon King of Tyranny, and the power that destroys all life!?

Our Take:
The showdown has finally reached its thrilling climax, with Avos gaining the upper hand with the Magic Sword of Destruction. On the bright side, though, Leno and Shin have reunited 2,000 years later to see their daughter Misa for the first time. But, of course, this family reunion occurs after dealing with the seemingly powerful Avos. Fortunately for Anos, Avos’s reign doesn’t last long, as she was easily bested by Anos, but not before she sacrificed herself to summon the Goddess of Destruction. Even worse, NousGalia is still alive after taking a heavy beating from Shin in the previous episode.
Luckily, Anos still knows how to stay one step ahead of his opponents, as he manipulates NousGalia into becoming trapped by fear, allowing Anos to split his core apart. What followed afterward was a touching reunion between Misa, Leno, and Shin, thanks to Misa becoming a full-fledged spirit without the rumors and traditions corrupting her. I hoped this sequence would be pretty emotional, and while it didn’t make me ugly cry, it hits enough poignant notes to make it satisfying. What’s even better is that it marks the next step in the characters’ lives, with Anos working alongside Leno, Shin, Lay, and Misa to maintain peace between humans, spirits, and demons.
While the final confrontation between Anos and Avos was rushed, the episode easily compensated for it with its rewarding family reunion and a suitable conclusion. But, of course, that doesn’t mean Anos’s journey is over. Part of the reason is that the Sun of Ruin is still shining upon Anos and the students, and one of Anos’s memories involving him activating the Magic Sword is missing. These elements will likely play a huge part in the season’s second part, which is set to come out sometime next year. Hopefully, it won’t be postponed midseason again like what happened during the first half’s run.
