English Dub Review: The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent “A Foreign Country”

Overview

After discovering coffee, Sei decides to go to Morgenhaffen, a port city in Salutania, in her search for items or ingredients from Japan…

Our Take

As Sei and Hawke journey to the trade port city of Morgenhaffen, a fantasy counterpart to East Asia, they discover the presence of chilies among Ceyran’s wares, suggesting trade with an equivalent of the western world. Oscar, having business there, adds to the intrigue. Sei disguises herself for a discreet visit since Albert can’t be present for protection. Accompanied by Jude and the knights, a commotion on a trade ship reveals a grave injury. Despite knowing magic intervention is best avoided, Sei attempts minimal help with self-made potions.

As expected, Captain Ceyran seeks Sei out to express gratitude, seizing the opportunity for a free offer. The specialty goods from Zaidera are familiar food ingredients, and upon her return, Sei introduces Japanese-style cooking to Johan and Hawke. Despite contemplations of marriage, Sei’s commitment in work hinders any romantic gestures. Even Johan contemplates stepping in if Hawke delays, while other guys make their moves, causing concern for Hawke.

Overall, this was an okay episode. Albert’s hesitancy surprises, given his relatively aggressive stance in the first season. The soundtrack, feeling somewhat out of place, as it created a sense of forboding. At the very least, It was nice for Sei to be able to create food from her homeland here. Now I remain Curious about who the king that captain is reporting to though. I guess we’ll find out later on…
