English Dub Review: The Eminence in Shadow: “The Strongest Weakest Man”

Overview: Cid (Adam Gibbs) masks himself as Mundane Mann in the hopes of having a bombastic debut to show off his skills

Our Take: When the focus is completely on Cid, he delivers nothing but laughs that come from his in-depth knowledge of an average Isekai hero. The blatantly ridiculous names for characters continue to be hilarious in his disguise as Mundane Mann.

Annerose, an honorable, decorated knight, is the perfect catalyst to hype up the intrigue surrounding Cid’s abilities. How Cid traverses situations to make sure he’s planting just the right amount of mystery is immensely fun. Cid’s foresight mixed with his over-the-top enthusiasm just adds to the fresh spin on the Isekai cycle.

Perv Asshat rears his ugly butt once again with his engagement to Rose. Family pressures plus the unreasonable expectations from Asshat provide a sweet and soothing moment between her and Cid. His part is simple but effective in how he helps her stay true to herself.

Goldy Gilded is the overconfident persona you would expect out of a name like his. He too fits his role well. But, in his case, as an absolute buffoon, not being able to adequately judge Cid’s latent power. With that comes plenty of good humor in him trying to pull the wool over Skel’s eyes about his insights. With Goldilocks assigned to fight Cid, a proper whooping will be a treat, especially as Annerose begins to understand Mundane’s true strength.
