English Dub Review: Lord of Mysteries “Party”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Klein manages to finally get his skills up to Sequence 8, which is a cause for celebration, but a tragedy soon follows.
OUR TAKE
Despite my many gripes about the sheer magnitude of terminology, jargon, and lore that this show has inundated me with over the past couple of months I have been covering it, I have actually been able to pick up a few things of note. We’ve learned that “Sequences” correspond in some way to a Beyonder’s level of control or knowledge over their abilities, and that the lower the number of the sequence is, the greater in power it is. So Klein, having to start at Sequence 9 as a base level like apparently all Beyonders do, has now reached the one above that, Sequence 8, showing that he has gained a lot in the two and a half months he’s been at it. This is also apparently quite remarkable, as his senior Nighthawk colleagues have never known someone to reach that level so fast. This is probably a simplistic example, but it reminds me of how, in One Punch Man, Saitama first registers as a C rank hero before quickly moving up to B rank. And just like that show, I don’t expect that we’ll be seeing Klein make it up to any other sequences within the remaining few episodes we have in this season, but it’s nice to see some progression on his part.
However, that’s not the only significant thing that happens in this episode, as we see Klein’s kindly mentor Old Neil pretty much lose his marbles. Last episode, we saw one of his friends, Havre, go through a similar process as he seemed joyous and cheery before later being found as some misshapen beast that they had to put down like a rabid animal. Well, it seems it’s now time for Neil to follow the same fate, as his thoughts of resurrecting his dead wife starts to be turn him into a hulking gooey mass. Also of note is his recitation of potion ingredients for this plan. Potions are a big part of being a Beyonder and yet I never really know when to talk about them, but anyway, saying out loud all of the cryptic fantasy ingredients has been shown to be a common thing in this show, including this episode, but when Neil recites his, it involves the blood of living humans. So yeah, he’s gotta go, but at least we see he’s happy with his dead wife on the other side. He’ll be missed, at least by someone I’m sure, and now we have four episodes left so let’s make a break for it.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
