English Dub Review: Revenger: “Rosy Pitfall”

Overview: Raizo (Aaron Campbell) and the other Revengers are tasked with taking down yet another opium dealing operation, abusing vulnerable men. 

Our Take: The Revengers’ newest job is set-up through the horrendous treatment of men being put into prostitution, force fed opium. It shows how the false nuns prey upon them, creating utter disdain for them. The nuns’ schemes also paint a picture of how wide of a breadth Matsumine’s opium operation was. Kurima’s fresh grief over how he has been affected by the operation is decent enough in instilling a sense of drive for the mission. 

With the nuns taken out, they are a haunting addition to the criminal world. However, they feel almost inconsequential in how quickly they’re dispatched from an impactful setup. The gang faces off once again with the Chinese warrior, Liu, who had abducted Raizo. He proves to be a true warrior and threat, besting Raizo’s speed, even escaping from multiple Revengers. Shishido finally demonstrates his brains in putting the heat on the Revengers, causing the magistrate to look into them further. There is also some good tension built between Isarizawa and Shishido. It is created from Isarizawa’s friends who have suffered from the drug and Shishido trying to take over Matsumine’s enterprise. 

With the conflict heating up, the Revengers combating a limelight they are not used to could be very intense.
