English Dub Review: The Eminence in Shadow: “Dark Knight Academy Under Attack”

Overview: Cid (Adam Gibbs) helps Sherry (Brittney Karbowski) escape from terrorists invading the school while trying to figure out a way to stop them.

Our Take: There was always more to Cid’s sacrifice than meets the eye. It always goes back to his role as a background character. His giddiness at the most ghastly of outcomes that characters of those ilk are subjected to is hilariously bewildering in defending Rose from terrorists. Another charming aspect is how dense everyone is with Rose continuing that track record, misinterpreting his passionate feelings.

Cid, no-scoping, dropping bodies with ease is amazing in how he treats it as a pastime. His sniping becomes especially fun in him protecting Sherry from goons, with her dimwitted unawareness of all her close calls. Cid’s critiques of the school invasion’s highs and lows also makes for funny self-awareness.

His honesty with Sherry is refreshing in how plain he is about her not-so-subtle stealth or recovering from a near death wound. The Gaunt Knight’s desire to rejoin the Knights of Round establishes yet another intriguing connection to the organization.

With Rex in Shadow’s way, it presents another opportunity to watch Cid flex, stomping out stronger underlings like ants. Nu also gets a darker look in her vendetta against her former fiancé in the Crimson Knight, Marco. Delving into Nu’s past and her fractured relationship with Marco will hopefully not only flesh her out, but also that of the knights too.

As Cid and Sherry’s plan to stop the Eye of Avarice is underway, a battle with the Gaunt Knight is almost inevitable. Immense power cancels out the ticking time bomb of stored magical energy. The battle could be a real showstopper if it allows Cid to let loose, even if just a little.
