English Dub Review: Laid-Back Camp “Mount Fuji and Relaxed Hot Pot Camp”

Overview

While Nadeshiko makes a gyoza hotpot for Rin, Chiaki gets a job at a liquor store to fund the club. After enjoying the meal, Rin apologizes for being cold towards Nadeshiko when she invited her to join the club and promises to camp again with her sometime. After spending the night in her sister’s car, Nadeshiko wakes up early to watch the sun rise over Mount Fuji…


Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode we now have a bit of a Nadeshiko-focused storyline where she decides to make a “Hot pot” stew for her and Rin as her way of saying thank you for looking out for her in the first episode. We also get a separate subplot of a few classmates getting a job to fund their camping club in-between this storyline.

Nadeshiko shares some gyoza hot pot with Rin-chan under the night stars surrounding Mount Fuji which feels like a legit turning point as Rin slowly warms up to her. Of course near the end of the episode, Rin’s too shy to admit she had fun with Nadeshiko but it’s nice that she’s started warming up to the latter.

Overall this was a decent episode with some character development here and there. Although the pacing felt too fast, the soundtrack captures a lot of the easy listening atmosphere it’s going for, complete with wholesome moments and Enhancing Mt. Fuji scenarios most finely. Not only is Nadeshiko feel like the heart of the story, but she is amazing at cooking. Her facial expression all wrapped up was so adorable. And the post-credits scene with her classmates expanded on her character differently…
