English Dub Review: Laid-Back Camp “Welcome to the Outdoor Activities Club!”

Overview

Nadeshiko pays a visit to her school’s Outdoor Activities Circle, consisting of two members; Aoi Inuyama and Chiaki Ohgaki. The girls attempt to put together a cheap tent only for it to break on them. They are helped out by Rin’s friend Ena Saitou, who draws Nadeshiko’s attention to the fact Rin also attends her school…

Our Take

Nadeshiko has discovered the existence of a Camping/Outdoors club and is recruited to expand their skills, and work on setting up a tent. I thought it was a nice touch for the Outdoors Club to have supplies in their room, like wood, and pine cones for example.

As usual, the outdoor segments continue to showcase a side of Japan that isn’t all about skyscrapers and cafes. Rin would save a lot of money if she wasn’t the anti-social type, campfires are meant to be enjoyed with others. The episode even had some pretty nice comedic moments, it’s mostly physical humor that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Aside from that, the scenery shots and sense of exploration continue to impress while not feeling overdone.

Overall, this was another passable episode that manages to balance out the calm, funny & educational moments so well. I don’t even like the outdoors that much, partially due to being allergic to grass and being a tech-head. Yet this remains relaxing to watch with occasional moments of physical comedy here and there, mostly at the expense of two characters yet I couldn’t help but get a chuckle. There’s even a post-credits scene worth watching out for as well.
