English Dub Review: Vivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song- “Vivy Score – Singing From My Heart”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Now with Diva gone, Vivy retires as a songstress and moves into a museum. Matsumoto visits Vivy on the anniversary of their partnership and notes that she hasn’t sung since the concert. Vivy clings to her mission of the Singularity Project, but Matsumoto rejects her and notes that the incident with Ophelia was the last one. Furthermore, Matsumoto is still around because of two things: the ominous words of Kakitani and a personal favor from Diva. Matsumoto suggests a race between the two of them on their respective tasks.
Vivy recalls the time she was created and the words of her developer. She talks to a child, Osamu hits the nail on the head with her reason for retiring. The two race to see which one will find the answer to their respective goals. Vivy attempts to compose a song as Matsumoto and Osamu visit her every year. After a talk with Osamu and his baby, Vivy writes her song and Matsumoto visits her. He listens and asks if the song is about the Singularity Project which she confirms before going into a sleep state. However, Vivy wakes up violence as AIs murder humans to the sound of her song.
Our Take:
Vivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song- does a great job at intersecting life goals and the similarities between humans and AIs. The transitions and montages did a good job to reflect the passage of time with Osamu growing up and Vivy continuously working on her song. In addition, Vivy’s developer was an interesting character even though we didn’t get much of her on-screen. Her dialogue to see what Vivy can do is a way similar to a parent and child.
After Diva fades away Vivy doesn’t sing and retires despite her life’s mission to make people happy with her singing. Furthermore, the Singularity Project is complete according to Matsumoto who explains that Ophelia’s incident was the last one. Now that both AIs completed their missions Matsumoto proposes a race between them uncharacteristically given his attitude towards his mission. He challenges Vivy to find her answer while he completes a personal favor that turns out to be from Diva before she left.
It’s interesting to see Osamu like Momoka reach out to Vivy, unlike other humans. Osamu making an educated guess on the reason for her retirement and it’s clear that he’s not like the other kids. We get to see his growth with Vivy attempting to compose her own song, a first for AIs since all the AI songs are composed by humans. Her realization after meeting Osamu and discussing life is one of the pivotal moments that show marks on human life. It stirs Vivy into finishing her song, a culmination of the Singularity Project as Matsumoto aptly puts it. Furthermore, I do enjoy how the anime splits Vivy’s time in between Osamu and Matsumoto’s visits.
However, it’s not over yet with the chaos that Vivy wakes up. The rampaging AIs singing her song works to give off the ominous vibe. I do wonder how the show will explain the chaos and if Vivy’s journey with Matsumoto was just futile.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
