English Dub Review: BACK ARROW “Can Have-Nots Have Backbone?”

Overview

The aggressive Princess Fine declares war on Rekka and orders Demyne Shaft to prepare their armaments. Fritz Kraus finds Arrow, Shu, Bit, and Sola, but before he can transform into his Briheight, Dissonanza arrives and takes the group with her to the Depraved Palace, where they meet Elect Supreme Rudolf Conductore, one of the Six Supremes.

Meanwhile Princess Fine arranges a contest between Elsha and Prax hoping to acquire the Granedger for her upcoming war if Prax wins. If Elsha refuses, Fine threatens to kill the Edger villagers, so Elsha accepts the challenge and the fight begins…

Our Take

This Rudolf individual despite coming across as weird, kinda gives off some sinister final boss vibes. He’s definitely pulling the strings behind the scenes and manipulating Fine. No doubt the machinations caused by him are the reason why Fine has two separate personalities and his reaction at the end of the fight confirmed that.

Elsha for once is also getting some focus and a fight of her own. It’s a standard yet effective character moment which is nice to see since she kinda felt underutilized at times. I also suspect that the Jester has something to do with him thinking Prax and Fine were a bird. He seemingly can control people as seen with him sending the guy away, so it’s not too much of a stretch to think he can affect Sola like that as well…

Overall, while the pace and fluidity of the animation felt very fast and several unexpected powers appear one after another like a Studio Trigger anime, the storytelling also felt rushed in places. There are definitely some ideas and potential to make it genuinely good, and as someone who’s recently binged-watched this series in advance, I never quite know what it’s gonna throw at its audience next week.
