Review: Our Cartoon President “Warren vs. Facebook”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Elizabeth Warren has a bunch of negative press against her mostly as a result of Facebook posting fake news stories so she opts to take on the social conglomerate head-on. Warren enlists the help of Mayor Pete for some inside info and opts to a special committee hearing with Zuckerberg called in for what is essentially a comedy roast broadcast on live television. This emboldens Warren who becomes a badass and starts pushing everyone around thereby becoming everything she resents in a bully. Despite all this, FOX News wants in on the new Warren but Bernie convinces her otherwise and she goes back to being nice.

Meanwhile, the President wants to see more out of his son Eric as a solid contributor to his message to the media. His wife Lara, who has gained much fanfare from President Trump, opts to help her husband out. At first nothing works, so Lara puts Eric in a ridiculous costume and trots him out to rile up the crowd. Turns out, “Gummy” is a big hit and soon starts taking away Lara’s limelight. The antidote? Lara starts a public relationship with Rudy Giuliani which causes Eric to have a personality disorder but Melania is here to help and convinces the least popular Trump to go back to being an idiot.

Warren returns to the same press conference as Eric to speak out against Facebook and forces Mark to sign a pledge against bullying…except on Scrabble Tuesdays.

Our Take

If you are not a fan of the Donald Trump character, you’re going to be pleasantly surprised to learn that this week’s episode featured the least amount of “Trump” of any of the episodes over the last three seasons. Instead, we get a heaping helping of Elizabeth Warren, and while most might be worried about her portion of the show being out of date due to her recent dropping out of the race, no worries, it actually fits just fine with her ongoing narrative of taking down tech magnates like Zuckerberg, Bezos, and the like.

On the other hand, Eric Trump bits bore me because Eric bores me as a character. Everything from his character design to his voice portrayal from Emily Lynne who is a fine voice actor, but just the overall portrayal of him is a little too underdeveloped and some what cliched. He’s almost like a Ralph Wiggum just without any soul. Ed Begley Jr. as the voice of “Bruce” is a hilarious choice and it works well, but overall, a rather tepid episode that seemed to have similar themes from previous episodes with no real ingenuity or inventiveness.
