1994 saw the release of two new Simpsons Game Boy titles, the first of which being Bart and the Beanstalk. The side-scrolling adaptation of both The Simpsons and the classic fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk plays exactly as it sounds. A gigantic beanstalk grows in the Simpsons backyard, and Bart climbs to the top to encounter a castle and its giant. Despite crisp graphics and multiple references to the show, Bart and the Beanstalk was met with average to negative reviews. At this point the market was overwhelmed with basic side-scrolling games similar to Mario and The Simpsons were just one of many titles fighting for shelf space.
