Review: Hot Streets “The Egg”
Does this week’s episode lay an egg?
Overview (Spoilers Below)
Branski is off for Chubbie’s birthday which is a grand occasion that will feature the entire Webbers family. To sub in, we meet Benny, but Branski’s not taking his day off without a fight and decides to carry on his day…until he gets decapitated. Fortunately, French has a contraption called an “Egg” which after six months spawns a new Branski in an egg. This is becoming an ongoing cycle for over a year, and we find out “The Farmer” is responsible for Branski constantly waking up in eggs. A new egg helmet stops the process, but 45 years later Branski’s on his deathbed and we learn Benny is behind all of this with a chicken cohort that is, in fact, a Lesson Wizard. Branski figures this out as Benny keeps trying to teach him a lesson but it’s Branski who gets the lesson. We revert back to when Branski was decapitated and learn that the detective should take life one day at a time.
Our Take
For those who enjoy sci-fi that bends time to the point of mindfuckery ala Arrival or Interstellar, this week’s episode of Hot Streets is right up your alley. It’s one of those episodes where if we were on a ship, this is the lifeboat scene where I say, “Good Luck!” before kicking you out to sea because there’s a bunch going on that you’ll want repeat viewings to kind of get a handle on things. A few plot holes but the last scene that showcased Branski’s head being put together is the kind of thing that reminds you where you are in terms of what kind of show this is. Expect the unexpected as they say, and that definitely pertains to Hot Streets.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
