Todd McFarlane talks animated ‘Spawn’
Image Comics President and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane recently took part in a Reddit AMA, and while he didn’t talk MUCH about the future of the animated franchise, he did offer a decent tidbit:
Animation – I’m currently working on some more animation, it’s not a direct continuation of the HBO series, but it’s moving forward in time a little bit, to acknowledge that a decade has passed since the TV show. My hope is that we’ll probably get serious about it once we get the movie off the ground, to use it as backup after we’re done getting the movie out there, like we did the first time around.
So, as of now, it sounds like the future of Spawn animated is a bit cloudy to say the least. It sounds like Todd wants to do it, but he wants a feature-length movie first. This could mean that it may be a WHILE before we see any sort of follow-up to the brilliant HBO series. Actually, Todd did mention that a return to TV wouldn’t necessarily mean a return to HBO, but if the network were to have an open door I’m sure Todd would pass right through.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
