Could Kevin Reilly heading up TBS be good or bad for cartoons?
Kevin Reilly did a lot of really great things when he was the top Content dude over at FOX. Unfortunately, he did a lot of dumb shit, and now that Kevin is the head of content for both TBS and TNT, this has me worried about American Dad and the future of cartoons on TBS.
Let’s look at the good. Kevin had green-lit such animated shows as Bob’s Burgers, The Cleveland Show, and a block of alternative animated programming called ADHD which helped spawn series’ like Axe Cop, Lucas Bros., and a slew of other cartoons that were so good it was probably illegal.
Unfortunately, Kevin did a lot of bad when it came to cartoons on FOX. For starters, he cancelled King of the Hill in favor of The Cleveland Show, he tried pushing out animated shows with star-level talent featuring Jonah Hill and the cast of Napoleon Dynamite behind them only to see both of those efforts fail, and RIGHT before he left he cancelled American Dad! which is kicking all sorts of ass over on TBS. Oh, and let’s not forget Murder Police, a show that was cancelled before it was even given a chance to be seen, but was pretty much finished in production.
And this is where the fear sets in. On one hand, Kevin could do something shitty and cancel a better American Dad! series from TBS before the show really gets time to spread its wings. On the other hand, maybe Kevin can do a lot of good, and actually BUILD on the success of American Dad! on TBS, and green light even MORE cartoons, thereby recreating the Animation Domination lineup that was oh-so sweet on FOX.
There’s a lot here for Kevin to benefit from. For starters, American Dad! moving to TBS has been a SUPER-HUMAN hit, even outpacing the FOX series which took the animated show’s place. And with Adult Swim no longer on Dish networks, and with Turner layoffs happening left and right, Kevin has a chance to build an animated slate that can create jobs and give TBS a younger audience that will watch other things than just Big Bang Theory reruns.
So what will Kevin Reilly do? Sound off below, and let us know what you think.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
