The Muppet Show Returns as a Disney+ Special with Seth Rogen and Sabrina Carpenter

We told you a few weeks ago about rumors of a return for The Muppet Show with Seth Rogen attached and now it’s come to fruition.

The Muppet Show is set to make a comeback in 2026 with a special television event on Disney+ that will serve as a backdoor pilot for a potential new series. The special is being produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey Pictures and will feature special guest star Sabrina Carpenter.

The new installment will see Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and the rest of the gang returning to the Muppet Theatre to produce a variety show, a format that was central to the original series. The special, which received a tax credit from the California Film Commission, is written by Albertina Rizzo and directed by Alex Timbers.

Veteran Muppet performers like Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, and others will return to reprise their roles. The special’s release in 2026 will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the original The Muppet Show.
