“Archer” Tops Hottest Baby Names List… Seriously

Baby site Nameberry just published its list of 2014’s most popular names, and there are a few very interesting surprises; namely, the inclusion of Archer as #42 (and rising fast) on the boy’s list.

With FX’s hit spy cartoon gaining more fans each year, and having just finished its fifth season, parents are apparently comfortable naming their kid after the show’s boozing, womanizing, constantly-inappropriate namesake character. (Side note: Wouldn’t Sterling be more accurate, considering that’s Archer’s actual first name? Oh well. We all know the real die-hard fans would name their kid Wee Baby Seamus, which is mysteriously absent from the list.)

Other curious entries include Katniss at #14 (of the awful Hunger Games franchise) and Elsa at #88 (of Frozen fame) for the girls. As for the little dudes: Asher topped out the list, while Django was #46, and Axel (Beverly Hills Cop, anyone?) came in at #95.

It’s worth noting that the list is based on the most searched names, not actual names given. That being said, Archer ringing in at #42 may not seem so significant, but with 4 million babies born in the U.S. each year, and about half of them boys, I’ll bet twenty years from now you’ll see a few Archers cruising around in their self-driving Google cars – and if you don’t believe me, why don’t you put your fancy future money (probably with Obama’s picture on it) where your mouth is?
