Adult Swim names new President and GM
Turner Nets have been in the news a lot this week, and that continues with the announcement made yesterday that Christina Miller has been named President and General Manager for the Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. networks Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang, as well as their digital brand extensions, including Cartoon Network.com and Adult Swim.com. According to a press release:
Miller will be responsible for leading the business in North America and working closely with Turner International to establish short and long-term priorities, as well as an overall worldwide strategic plan that will more closely align the Kids business. This role gives Miller global oversight of linear and non-linear content, the consumer products group and franchise management. She will lead a team of business and creative executives that includes, Rob Sorcher, chief content officer, Cartoon Network and Mike Lazzo, executive vice president/creative director, Adult Swim.
I think this initiative could change a LOT on how Adult Swim does things. She comes from just working with NBA Digital of which I am a customer of and I gotta say, they do a better job than the NFL, MLB, UFC, and WWE in terms of broadcasting games on your phone, tablets, and PCs. The NBA Network is one of my favorite channels, and I know Christina was a big part of that. As a result, do not be surprised to see Adult Swim continue its push into digital on the back of successes like King Star King. Also, look for her to be instrumental in the recent time-shifts that have happened on Cartoon Network which saw a lot of that network’s prime-time programming go away and giving Adult Swim more real estate to broadcast reruns.
